My first Parody Birthday Song was written when my father-in-law reached one of his milestone birthdays. Since then, a handful of others have been written, including a "payback" when Dee Dee wrote one for my 40th! All of the Birthday Songs were performed at the subject's birthday party by Dee Dee with me at the keyboard. The only exceptions were Dee Dee's song, which was sung by Phyllis Treigle Sheets and Melanie Milano Williams, and my own birthday song, which was sung by Dee Dee and accompanied by Dr. Peter Collins. The idea of writing a parody song after a St. Pius X play is attributed to my brother-in-law, Gary Levy. He began writing the "Annie Parody" shortly after our last performance of Annie and provided many of the ideas that are in the finished product. The song was premiered at the Annie cast party, thus starting a tradition for future plays & parties to come.
