His occupation was listed as "Farmer" in the 1910 Census.

In August 1922, S.P. completed a Pension Application for services provided during the Civil War. It states that in March 1862, he enlisted in Company F, Willis Battalion, Waul's Texas Legion and was residing in Gonzales County, TX at the time of enlistment. The inscription "Co F Waul's Tex Legion CSA" is also on S.P.'s grave marker. He is buried in Old Salem Cemetery near Vaiden.

His obituary reads "After an illness of some weeks at his home near Hebron, Samuel Parsons Johnson, aged 82 years and 4 days died on November 22. Mr. Johnson early in life united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Old Salem and was made an elder. Later at the dissolution of that church, he and his family united with the Blackmonton Presbyterian Church and until his death lived a consistent member and elder of that church. In March 1867, he was married to Miss Sarah (sic) Eliza Beck at Black Hawk by Rev. Steve Johnson. Mrs. Johnson and five sons and two daughters survive him. Funeral services were conducted at Old Salem church by Rev. E.W. Ford of Pickens assisted by Rev. Joseph Jacob, pastor of the Baptist church at Hebron and interment was in the family burial lot at Old Salem."

After S.P.'s death, Susan moved to Red Banks, MS (Marshall County) to live with her daughter Mamie. It was there in August 1923 that she completed a Pension Application as the widow of Samuel P. Johnson. Later, Susan moved to Ruleville, MS (Sunflower County) to live with her son Thomas, where she passed away.
