Greg's Maternal Line

My mother's maternal line had its roots in the Sicilian town of Piana dei Greci (Plains of Greece), which in the 1940's became known as Piana degli Albanesi (Plains of Albania). Both of her maternal grandparents (Andrea Cuccia & Antonina Guidera) were born and married in Sicily and came to New Orleans in the late 1800's where her mother, Victoria Cuccia, was born.

Most of the information that I have on my Sicilian ancestors prior to my great-grandparents was obtained through the extensive research of Leita Spoto and Josie Plescia Vaughn, two genealogical angels who've spent considerable time in Sicily over the years digging through and documenting church and civil records.

My maternal grandfather (Manuel Molla) hailed from Valencia, Spain. I do not have as much background on his ancestors as I've yet to find the Spanish version of a Leita or Josie, but I'm hopeful that as more information finds its way online, I'll be able to add a few more generations to my research.
